In Tim’s shoes is a little experiment I’m doing for one week, focusing on my experiences rather than my opinions.
Today I wore my favorite shoes. Brown leather. These have been with me for a long time. I don’t even remember when or where I bought them.
They’re dirty, but they still shine up well. Anyway, I never really liked shiny shoes. The best thing about these shoes though isn’t the way they look, it’s the way they feel. The leather has hardnened and softened in all the right places. They probably wouldn’t fit anyone else’s feet in the world. I don’t even need to untie them anymore. The laces are already starting to fray at the points where they crisscross. If I did untie them, they’d probably fall apart.
Last night I watched Slumdog Millionaire. I had been meaning to watch it, and when I saw it won eight Oscars I thought it was time. Today at work I found the soundtrack on Grooveshark (I sometimes listen to music while I’m working). I’ve never been a Bollywood fan, but this movie … I think it’s one of my all-time favorites. I know some people have protested the way it portrays India, but I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to visit India more!
Tonight is Bian’s birthday. Bian is Ning’s best friend from high school. Ning is the girl who lives with me — we’re married. I’ll bet you anything that Bian pays. That’s one of the big differences between American and Chinese culture. In China when it’s your birthday, you have to take your friends out to eat.
I wonder what Regis thinks about Slumdog Millionaire?
